Maria Höfl-Riesch and Marcus Höfl have separated after 13 years of marriage. Things like that can happen, she says in an interview with “Gala”.
It has been a little over 13 years since Maria Höfl-Riesch (39) and Marcus Höfl (50) tied the knot, but a few days ago the former ski racer and her husband and manager announced that they would be going their separate ways in their private lives. Höfl-Riesch speaks one week after the announcement.
Maria Höfl-Riesch remembers “such a great time together”
The athlete is apparently doing well under the circumstances. “It’s OK, but of course I’m very sad. A separation like this is painful, but things like this happen,” says Höfl-Riesch. The 39-year-old stressed that a loving and respectful separation was important to her: “We had such a great time together, so we’re parting ways in friendship. In the future, we won’t be a married couple anymore, but we’ll still be friends.” Höfl will also remain her manager.
The former couple “slowly but steadily grew apart” and there was no specific reason for the separation, explains the three-time Olympic champion. According to the report, she now wants to withdraw a little, “clear her head and focus entirely on myself.”
Höfl-Riesch also confirms points from the official separation announcement. “After careful consideration and with a heavy heart, we have decided to go our separate ways in the future,” the couple said. “Unfortunately, our lives have developed in very different directions, but we will remain connected both professionally and as friends.” The former couple had “wonderful times together” and want to “always keep these in good shared memories.”
