“Anarchy In The UK”: Sex Pistols delight audiences with comeback without ex-singer Lydon

Three members of the influential punk band Sex Pistols have teamed up with a new singer for three benefit concerts in London. On the first night, the fans are thrilled.

The British punk band Sex Pistols played all the songs from their legendary album “Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols” at their first concert in 16 years and thrilled the fans. The benefit concert on Tuesday evening was the first of a total of three shows in London that sold out within minutes.

Guitarist Steve Jones (68), drummer Paul Cook (68) and bassist Glen Matlock (67) performed without their former frontman John Lydon alias Johnny Rotten. Vocals were taken over by British punk singer Frank Carter (40), who was not yet born when “Never Mind The Bollocks” was released in 1977.

Reunion for a good cause

In front of around 400 spectators at Bush Hall in Shepherd’s Bush in West London, the band delivered an energetic show with punk classics such as “Holidays In The Sun”, “Problems”, “Liar” and “Anarchy In The UK” from their cult album. During the hit “God Save The Queen”, British rock singer Yungblud (“Parents”) briefly came on stage and sang along before celebrating wildly with other fans in the audience.

Only two years ago, Steve Jones told the German Press Agency that a reunion of the Sex Pistols was very unlikely. The reason was now for a good cause. The Bush Hall was on the verge of closing due to financial difficulties. The future of the hall is to be secured with the proceeds from the concerts and a crowdfunding campaign. The tickets were sold out within minutes.

Over the past 20 years or so, numerous stars have performed at the Bush Hall, including Adele, Amy Winehouse, Chris Rea and The Killers. Recently, however, bookings have dropped dramatically, according to the operators.

Relationship with ex-singer Lydon broken

The Sex Pistols originally disbanded in 1978. In the 1990s and 2000s, the group reunited several times for concerts and tours. They last performed together with frontman Lydon in 2008.

The singer recently lost a court case against his former bandmates. He had wanted to prevent the Sex Pistols’ songs from being used in the TV series “Pistol,” which is based on guitarist Jones’ memoirs. Since then, the musicians have reportedly had no contact with each other.
