The LMS Puchenau project convinced with a good groove and the impressive voice of Alina Fasching. The main piece of the evening, however, provided Frank Hoffmann and the trio of pianist Martin Gasselsberger under the title “All the things we are – a life from jazz”.
Hoffmann made his thoughts, explained the background, told about racism, sometimes also anecdotal like the story about the strange rivalry between Friedrich Gulda and Joe Zawinul. He drew parallels between the profession of the actor and that of the musician: With one, the text is the modeling material of his art, with the other it is the melodies, the harmonies that are changed and shaped through improvisation.
Treasure chest of music history
Gasselsberger brought the right pieces for this, rummaged through the treasure trove of music history with relish, from Hoagy Carmichael’s “Skylark” to Zawinul’s world hit “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy” to “All Blues”, the piece of the century by Miles Davis, and finally Monks “Round Midnight “. Everything sovereign and respectful, with idiosyncratic intonation. Gasselsberger improvised imaginatively, Roland Kramer played a powerful bass and Gerald Endstrasser a sensitive drum kit. (haun)
