Pirelli gives a preview of the 2025 calendar with the first photos. “Euphoria” star and LGBT activist Hunter Schafer is also included.
For the 50th edition of the legendary Pirelli calendar for 2024, the Ghanaian artist Prince Gyasi (29) had photographed supermodels such as Naomi Campbell (53) and Idris Elba (51) in bright colors and in a comparatively modest manner. For the Pirelli calendar 2025, the American photographer Ethan James Green (34) is focusing on more bare skin and unusual names.
Under the motto “Refresh and reveal”, Green consciously returns to “classic sexiness” – not least to redefine this term after #MeToo and bring it up to date.
Experimental return to “classic sexiness”
the well-known fashion photographer said: “I think you know #MeToo has really forced everyone to pause, which is a really good thing. And I think a lot of what has become sexy is what we started to see on people’s social media, usually through selfies.” His shoots for the upcoming Pirelli calendar aimed to “start at the very beginning, but then also figure out how that makes sense today.”
Now that Pirelli has released initial impressions of the shoots that have already been completed and the names of the stars involved, it is clear that Green’s concept has also influenced the selection of the protagonists. Among those portrayed are celebrities such as US actress Hunter Schafer (25), who is known not only for her leading role in the HBO series “Euphoria”, but also for her activities as an LGBT activist.
Androgynous looks from Calvin Klein model Jenny Shimizu
US model Jenny Shimizu (57), known for her extremely androgynous look, also presents herself in front of the camera to explore contemporary forms of sexiness and gender identity. Other female Pirelli stars include actress Simone Ashley (29, “Bridgerton”), model Padma Lakshmi (53), who was once married to writer Salman Rushdie (77), and British actress Jodie Turner-Smith (37).
This group is also joined by some male Pirelli models such as British “Star Wars” star John Boyega (32), French actor and film producer Vincent Cassel (57, “Black Swan”) and photographer Ethan James Green himself. The official images for the 2025 Pirelli calendar are due to be released later this year.
