The allegations are serious: Marius Borg Høiby is said to have attacked his girlfriend. Now the son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit has spoken out for the first time – and admitted his actions in clear terms.
This incident caused turmoil in the kingdom: ten days ago, Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, was arrested. The accusation: physical assault to the detriment of his girlfriend. Now the 27-year-old has spoken out on the matter for the first time through his lawyer and released a detailed statement in which he fully admits the allegations.
“Last weekend something happened that should never have happened,” begins the statement of the man that Mette-Marit brought into her marriage to Crown Prince Haakon. In drastic words, he continues: “I committed bodily harm and destroyed objects in an apartment,” while he was under the influence of cocaine. He suffers from several mental disorders that have affected his life since childhood, writes Marius Borg Høiby. He has struggled with drug abuse for a long time and has been in therapy for it. “I will now resume this treatment and take it very seriously.”

However, the 27-year-old writes that he does not want to use his drug problem as an excuse. “I want to be held accountable for what I have done and will explain myself truthfully to the police.”
He also found words for his girlfriend, the victim of his violent outburst: “For me, the most important thing is to apologize to my girlfriend. She did not deserve what happened that night, nor the extreme pressure from the Norwegian and foreign press afterwards.” He also wanted to apologize to his family. “I know that my actions had a big impact on you too,” he wrote, referring to his mother and her husband, the future King of Norway.

In fact, heir to the throne Haakon had commented on the case shortly after his stepson’s arrest. The 51-year-old said it was a “serious matter” that also affected him.
A statement from the victim’s lawyer has now been made. Her client had been waiting and hoping that Høiby would admit what he had done.
