The ARD series “Watzmann ermittelt” is one of the ratings hits in the early evening. Fans can now solve cases themselves at the original locations.
The ARD ratings hit “Watzmann ermittelt” is increasingly becoming a tourist attraction in its setting of Berchtesgaden. In the spa gardens of the town of 8,000 inhabitants, there is now a life-size photo still of the TV investigators, which fans can take photos with, according to a PR release from the production. It shows Katharina Leonore Goebel (Inspector Sophia Strasser) with her acting colleagues Andreas Giebel (Chief Inspector Benedikt Beissl) and Peter Marton (Inspector Jerry Paulsen).
Fans can solve a case on a filming location tour via app
On the small monument, visitors will find a QR code for their cell phone. It leads to a tour of the filming locations lasting just under one and a half hours. As amateur police officers, they then solve tasks at the original locations using the specially developed “On the trail of Watzmann – Filming locations tour” app. There is a reward in the tourist center for successful investigations.
The app is hosted by actress Goebel. “I want to test it on site with Peter Marton in the next two weeks after the current filming ends,” she said. “Let’s see if we can solve the case in the app.”
Actress Goebel thinks about We Are Heroes song
When she first met her own cardboard cutout in the spa gardens, she was both fascinated and embarrassed: “It’s really strange that the three of us are now standing in the spa gardens as cardboard cutouts. The We Are Heroes song “Denkmal” immediately came to mind: “Get the sledgehammer – they’ve built us a monument.” Goebel laughed on the subject: “I’m just waiting for someone to draw me a moustache. But if they do, then hopefully it’ll be a nice and imaginative one.”
“Nobody would have expected five years ago when the series started that it would be such a success,” said Antje Schlüter, the editor responsible at Bayerischer Rundfunk. Not many filming locations are so successful “that a filming location discovery tour is dedicated to them.”
The series “Watzmann ermittelt” is one of the biggest ratings hits on ARD’s early evening. The last season reached an average of around three million viewers and a 13.6 percent market share. This made the BR production the second most successful early evening series on ARD in 2023. The repeats are currently running on Wednesdays at 6:50 p.m. on Das Erste.
