German bread is not only very popular here. For the musician duo Sofi Tukker, it is an essential part of a visit to Germany. Even their new album has a connection to bread.
The American dance-pop duo Sofi Tukker loves German bread. “For me, there is nothing better than a good German multigrain bread with seeds. It is my favorite bread of all time,” Sophie Hawley-Weld told the German Press Agency. The German pastry is also at the top of the menu for duo partner Tucker Halpern: “I love German bread. We are both actually gluten-free. But especially in Germany, we break the rules,” said the 34-year-old.
In keeping with their love of German bread, the duo will release their third album, entitled “Bread,” next Friday (August 23). “We called it ‘Bread’ because people all over the world gather around bread to connect, share common ideas, and get pure energy. That’s what our music is meant to do for people,” says Hawley-Weld. “But ‘Bread’ is also an acronym for ‘Be Really Energetic And Dance.'”
The 32-year-old has a lot more to do with Germany than just her passion for bread. “I was born in Frankfurt and lived here for four years. Then I went to a German school and was here for exchange programs, including in Dresden,” says Hawley-Weld. “It’s a very nostalgic place for me. It’s my childhood and it’s very familiar to me.”
Halpern, who was born in Massachusetts, USA, also feels very comfortable in Germany. “I have the feeling that Germany has supported us a lot throughout our career. It just felt close and comfortable. I really appreciate that,” he says. In November, Sofi Tukker will play two concerts in Germany with a new album in tow, in Hamburg and Berlin, and in Cologne as the opening act for DJ Kygo.
