Glam metal rocker Jack Russell (1960-2024) has died. The former lead singer and founding member of the hard rock band Great White died at the age of 63. His family announced this. Russell passed away “peacefully” in the presence of his wife, son, cousin and friends, the statement said. “Jack will be loved and remembered for his sense of humor, his extraordinary zest for life and his unwavering contribution to rock’n’roll, where his legacy will thrive forever.”
Just under a month ago, Jack Russell announced that he would be retiring after being diagnosed with Lewy body dementia. “It is no longer possible for me to perform at the level I want and that you deserve,” Russell wrote in a short message.
Jack Russell founded the band Great White with Mark Kendall in 1981. The band released a total of eight studio albums before Russell left in 1996. After a solo album, he returned to the band before the group finally split up in 2001. Russell eventually changed the name to “Jack Russell’s Great White” for a few years and then back to Great White before finally splitting up with the group in 2011.
Russell married his girlfriend Heather Ann Kramer in 2011.
Former bandmates mourn Jack Russell
His former bandmates from Great White honored Jack Russell as one of “rock’s greatest champions.” One said: “Our deepest condolences to Jack Russell’s family. We hope they find comfort in the knowledge that his incredible voice will live on forever.” Russell’s love for the fans and his sons was “incomparable,” as was his great love for rock music.
“What do you say about someone who has been by your side on such an incredible journey, for better or for worse?” it continues. “We want to let the music fill the gaps. We keep all of these wonderful years together close to our hearts.” It was “a privilege and a joy” to share a stage with Jack Russell – “lots of shows, lots of miles and maximum rock.”
