Ralf Schumacher contradicts his ex-wife Cora and accuses her of lying. He presents a chat history as alleged proof.
Ralf Schumacher (49) cannot let the first interview of his ex-wife Cora Schumacher (47) after his coming out go. He clearly contradicted Cora’s statements, even accused her of lying and shared a private chat history as alleged proof. But first things first. The former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher made his love for his partner Étienne public a few weeks ago. So far, however, his ex-wife Cora has remained silent on the subject.
in which she also spoke about her emotional state. She felt compelled to correct her public image and, “like the rest of Germany,” found out about the news through the media.
Ralf Schumacher: “We just want to have peace and quiet”
In his current post, Schumacher now writes: “With all this back and forth, I would like to clarify that Cora congratulated us in September 2023 because she thought we had gotten married.” As supposed proof, he published a screenshot of his partner’s alleged WhatsApp conversation with Cora. In it, she is said to have congratulated them on an alleged wedding that in reality never took place. Étienne clears up the misunderstanding in the chat, whereupon the supposed Cora replies: “Whatever, I’m happy for you.”
Ralf Schumacher continued in his post: “I think it’s a shame for Étienne and me that she spreads so many lies. We just want to be left in peace.” Cora and Ralf were married from 2001 to 2015 and have a son together, David (22).
In the emotional “Spiegel” interview, however, Cora describes her view of things, although – as already mentioned – she was surprised by the outing: “Did he even think for a moment about the consequences for me?” It was not easy for her “that suddenly the whole of Germany was speculating about my inner soul and my well-being,” said the 47-year-old through tears.
She would have seen a warning as “a sign of respect”. It is not clear, however, whether she first found out about the relationship through the media or was simply surprised by the announcement. According to “Spiegel”, Ralf Schumacher did not want to comment on the matter. His lawyers said that reporting on family matters violated his privacy. It is incorrect that Cora only found out that Ralf was with his partner Étienne through the public coming out.
Contradictory statements
In the “Spiegel” interview, Cora Schumacher also has positive words for her ex-partner. She is happy for his happiness and is pleased that Ralf has finally found himself and can accept his sexuality, says the 47-year-old. For the future, she can also imagine “that they might find each other again as a patchwork family.” She particularly wishes this for their son.
At the moment, however, she doesn’t know how to deal with the fact that Ralf didn’t talk to her before coming out. “Because a coming out like this always affects those around you, including the ex-wife with whom you had a child,” says Cora Schumacher. “And yes, I wish Ralf had included me or at least told me about it.”
Her main concern now is to maintain her credibility and reputation. She does not want to be accused of “having entered into a supposed sham marriage or having an arrangement.”
