Marius Borg Høiby committed bodily harm while under the influence of drugs. The Crown Prince’s stepson apologized publicly. But now telephone recordings have come to light.
Only on Wednesday did Marius Borg Høiby release a statement apologizing to his girlfriend. The son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit was arrested at the beginning of August on charges of assault and confessed to the crime a few days later. The female victim called the police and went to hospital with a concussion.
In his statement, which was published by the 27-year-old, he admitted that he was suffering from mental problems and that he had been under the influence of alcohol and cocaine at the time of the crime. He apologized to his family and his girlfriend. But now telephone recordings have come to light that prove that Borg Høiby continued to verbally attack the woman even after the crime.
The Norwegian newspaper “VG” published these saucy recordings. Borg Høiby’s voice sounds calm, but at the same time somewhat aggressive. In the phone call recorded after the crime, the now repentant Marius downplays the crime. He says: “I hit you a little, a little slap, with the flat of my hand…”.
Marius Borg Høiby is said to have hit the woman “a hundred times”
The woman replied that he had hit her a hundred times and choked her at least five times, so that she could hardly breathe, according to the Norwegian report. The crown prince’s stepson demanded that the woman collect her clothes and belongings from him at Skaugum Castle by the afternoon: “At 4 p.m. your clothes will be burning. 4 p.m. Everything you own is already out here. And I have a large canister of petrol and a lighter in my hand. Do you hear that? You will be here at 4 p.m.,” he demands.
When the victim asked him why he did this, he replied: “Because you deserve all the crap I throw at you,” and then verbally abused the woman.
In a second phone recording, he asks where the woman is: “Are you on your way? Now all the things here are going in the trash. I told you you had an hour to get here. Three hours have passed.”
The telephone recordings are to be used as evidence in the upcoming trial against the son of the Norwegian royal family.
