In this season of “I’m a Celebrity!” the group shrinks in episode two. There is drama and tears. Will there be a successor?

And he’s gone: For David Ortega, after a short but intense stay in the jungle, his time is already over. The former “Cologne 50667” actor was voted out by the “Legends” group in the second episode of the special season released on Friday on the streaming service RTL+. It was the first time in the history of “I’m a Celebrity” that the participants themselves decided who had to leave the camp. With seven out of eleven votes, the secret vote clearly went to the 38-year-old bearded man.

Ortega, who ironically had previously been elected team leader, has caused unrest since entering the jungle camp and has “got on everyone’s nerves” in his search for more responsibility, as the always highly motivated ex-footballer Thorsten Legat made clear. “You live somewhere on the moon,” commented reality star Kader Loth after Ortega had once again shot himself into the foot with his communication. Finally, to great indignation, the actor even demanded to be addressed formally (Hanka Rackwitz: “You’re a bit of a nutcase, but a really big one”).

The first solo test of the season was almost boring, however, when former “GZSZ” star Eric Stehfest confidently collected all twelve stars and secured a worthy meal for the group. The decision as to who should take the test was more emotional. Jungle Princess Hanka started crying because Thorsten had no understanding for the fact that the TV real estate agent and other legends did not volunteer for the test (“They’re all wimps”). After a few tears, whether real or fake, the argument was over.

The battle for the 100,000 euros in the special edition of the reality show continues on Saturday evening with one competitor less. But there is a possible replacement for the voted-out Ortega: The 32-year-old reality candidate Elena Miras was already announced as a participant, but has not yet shown up. According to RTL.de, she will surprisingly join the jungle squad later.

The new season is a special edition for the 20th anniversary of the show, which was first broadcast in 2004. This time, a lot is different: RTL is not showing the season at the beginning of the year, but in the summer. The setting is not Australia, but South Africa. The show is not broadcast live, but was recorded. And it is a kind of reunion for former cast members: the “legends”, as RTL calls them, have already been in the camping light in previous seasons.
