The MTV Video Music Awards will be presented in September. A winner has already been chosen – Katy Perry will receive the “Video Vanguard Award” and will also perform.
US singer Katy Perry (39, “Teenage Dream”) is expanding her trophy collection: The pop star is set to receive the “Video Vanguard Award” at the MTV Video Music Awards in September. The trophy is being awarded in memory of video clip pioneer Michael Jackson. Previous winners include Shakira, Missy Elliott, Jennifer Lopez, Pink, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake and Madonna.
In a statement, the music channel MTV praised Perry as one of the most successful singers of all time. She is also committed to philanthropy. The singer is active as a UNICEF ambassador for the children’s aid organization, among other things. The Californian-born singer has been one of the highest earners in pop for many years. She rose to superstardom with hits such as “California Gurls” and “Firework.”
The MTV Video Music Awards are scheduled to take place on September 11th. Katy Perry will perform live. MTV had previously announced performances by singers such as Camila Cabello, Sabrina Carpenter and GloRilla.
Pop superstar Taylor Swift is heading into this year’s MTV Video Music Awards with the most chances of winning. With ten nominations, including in the categories of Video, Artist and Song of the Year, the 34-year-old leads the list of candidates.
The song “Fortnight” from the album “The Tortured Poets Department” brings her the most nominations. This also benefits the rapper Post Malone, whom Swift brought on board for the song. Through his collaboration with Swift on the hit song and through his collaboration with country star Morgan Wallen on “I Had Some Help”, Post Malone is in the running with nine nominations.
Ariana Grande (“We Can’t Be Friends”), Sabrina Carpenter (“Espresso”) and Eminem (“Houdini”) each have six chances to win, followed by SZA and Megan Thee Stallion with five nominations each.
The trophy show takes place in the US state of New York. The awards have been given out since 1984. Fans can vote for their favorites online. The trophies depict an astronaut figure holding an MTV flag.
