Katy Perry (39) will receive a special honor at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards: She can look forward to the honorary award. As MTV announced in a press release, the musician will be honored with the Video Vanguard Award as “one of the most successful singers of all time.” The award is presented in memory of Michael Jackson (1958-2009), who is considered a pioneer in music videos.
In addition to her achievements in pop music, Perry, who has had worldwide hits with songs such as “I Kissed A Girl” and “California Gurls”, is also a philanthropist, according to MTV. She is, among other things, an ambassador for the UNICEF children’s charity. The MTV Video Music Awards will be presented on September 11th in New York.
