Jumping from the edge of the pool is expressly encouraged: almost 100 swimming fans jumped for victory in the cannonball competition on Saturday at the Zollverein coking plant in Essen in perfect outdoor pool weather. In the factory swimming pool of the World Heritage Site, there was supposed to be splashing, splashing and the audience cheering when the participants landed bottom-first in the water.
The jury judged who made the right wave, produced the highest water fountains and hit the water surface with their bottom in perfect form. After just the first of three rounds, most of the spectators were soaking wet. This was expressly desired in the Ruhr metropolis with the sunshine from midday onwards, because the higher the splash, the better.
