Prince Harry and his wife Meghan are currently visiting Colombia. A drumming course was on the agenda.
Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan have immersed themselves in the world of sound in Colombia. The two are currently on a four-day trip through the South American country at the invitation of Vice President Francia Marquez. On August 17, they reached the city of Cartagena, the last stop on their trip. There, a visit to the local drum school Escuela Tambores de Cabildo was on the agenda.
The school is committed to preserving Cartagena’s culture, especially its Afro-Colombian roots and traditional drumming. After a welcome with drum sounds and an opening performance, the couple took part in a discussion about the importance of this work.
As a welcoming gift, the Sussexes received a small wooden boat from a student, a tribute to the coastal town and its beaches.

Afterwards, the Prince and the Duchess were allowed to sit down at the drums themselves. They were accompanied at the drumming course, which was led by students, by the Vice President and her partner, as they had been at their previous appointments. Pictures show the royals sitting next to the children at the drums and enthusiastically banging on their instruments. According to the British newspaper, Márquez particularly highlighted Meghan’s enthusiasm: “I love seeing Meghan’s big, big smile. I can see that she is excited.”
The jam session was followed by another performance by some locals and a speech by the politician. In this, she emphasized how important tradition is for preserving Colombian heritage. Among other things, she invited Harry and Meghan to Colombia because she sees them as important voices against injustice.

Already the third school
The drum school in Cartagena was the third institution the couple visited on their trip to Colombia. They first visited a charter school in Bogotá and spoke to students about the positive and negative effects of social media before practicing Spanish with the children during a visit to a kindergarten class.
Because the son of King Charles III and his wife are no longer officially members of the British royal family, the trip is taking place as part of their Archewell Foundation. The focus of the stay is on the topic of cyberbullying and online discrimination. Colombia also joined Harry’s Invictus Games Community of Nations in 2022. The founder of the competitions for veterans therefore also met with participants in his Invictus Games and played a round of sitting volleyball with them.
