US actor John Aprea has died. The actor, known from “The Godfather – Part II” among other things, was 83 years old.
Long-time US actor John Aprea (1941-2024) has died. He died of natural causes in his home in Los Angeles surrounded by his family, reports citing Aprea’s manager. One report also cites the deceased’s manager. Due to differing information, it is unclear exactly when Aprea died. Both August 5 and August 7 are currently given as the date of his death.

Since the late 1960s, Aprea has appeared in numerous film and series roles. He made his debut in 1968 in the Steve McQueen classic “Bullitt”. This was followed by roles in “The A-Team”, “The Fall Guy”, “Full House”, “Melrose Place” and “The Sopranos”. In “Full House” he played the father of John Stamos’ character Jesse.
Film fans will probably know Aprea primarily as the younger Salvatore Tessio in Francis Ford Coppola’s (85) “The Godfather – Part II”. According to the report, Aprea described this role as the greatest success of his career. Accordingly, the late actor originally auditioned for the role of Michael Corleone in the first “The Godfather” film, but the role ultimately went to Al Pacino (84). The character is one of the most famous to have been played by Pacino so far.
According to the report by the “Hollywood Reporter”, Aprea leaves behind, among others, his wife Betsy and his daughter Nicole.
