Actress Danielle Fishel was diagnosed with cell proliferation during her annual check-up. Now she wants to save other women.
During a routine examination, US series star Danielle Fishel (43) received the horrific diagnosis: breast cancer. The “Life and Me” series heroine shares her medical records in the latest episode of her podcast “Pod Meets World”.
“I was recently diagnosed with DCIS, which is a form of breast cancer,” reveals the mother of two young sons. Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is a cell proliferation that is a precursor to breast cancer.
“It’s very, very, very early. It’s technically stage zero,” adds Fishel, also known from “Full House,” and offers encouragement: “I’m going to be OK. I’m going to have surgery to remove it. I’m going to have follow-up treatment. (…) I’m going to be OK.”
Preventive medical examination saved her
“The only reason this cancer was discovered when it was still stage zero is because the day I received a text saying I was due for my annual mammogram, I immediately scheduled the appointment,” the actress continues. She wants to use her story to remind people to go for regular check-ups in the hope that it will help more people detect cancer at an early stage. Her tumor has not yet spread to surrounding breast tissue.
Fishel repeatedly emphasizes the importance of annual screenings: “We cannot simply say: ‘I don’t have time for that, I already had a mammogram last year.'”
