“Modi”, the film directed by Johnny Depp, will premiere at the San Sebastian Film Festival

The screening will mark Depp’s return to San Sebastian after receiving the festival’s Donostia Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021.

The second job as director of Johnny Depp, Modi: Three Days on the Wings of Madnesswill make his debut in the San Sebastian Film Festival next month.

The film, starring Riccardo Scamarcio in the role of the famous Italian painter Amedeo Modiglianiwill premiere in the non-competition section of the festival.

The synopsis reads: Modi is on the run from the police and his desire to end his career and leave the city is rejected by fellow artists Maurice Utrillo, Chaim Soutine and Modi’s muse, Beatrice Hastings. Modi seeks advice from his art dealer and friend, Leopold Zborowski; however, after a night of hallucinations, the chaos in Modi’s mind reaches a fever pitch when he is confronted by an American collector, Maurice Gangnat, who has the power to change his life. They are also in the film Stephen Graham, Al Pacino and Antonia Desplat.

The screening will mark Depp’s return to San Sebastian after receiving the festival’s Donostia Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021.

Other premieres at the San Sebastian Film Festival

San Sebastian has also announced today that Thierry FrémauxGeneral Delegate of the Cannes Film Festival and Director of the Lumière Institute, returns to San Sebastian to screen Lumière! The adventure continues. The documentary is the continuation of Lumière! The adventure begins (2016).

The synopsis of the film is: The sequel to Lumière! The Adventure Begins / Lumière! The Adventure Begins presents one hundred Lumière films, all impeccably restored, and aims above all to explore more deeply the history of the invention and affirmation of cinema in the world. This new feature film, following the huge success and world premiere of its predecessor, will confirm to viewers around the world that the roots of the greatest and most beautiful works in the history of cinema are to be found in their origins, which are at once profoundly French and truly international.

This year’s San Sebastian Film Festival will take place from 20 to 28 September.
