Bariloche prepares for the Snow Festival

Like every year, San Carlos de Bariloche celebrates the winter season with the realization of the Snow FestivalThe 53rd edition of this important event will feature more than forty activities that will take place between August 23 and 25. This celebration has been held since 1970 and is one of the most eagerly awaited events for tourists visiting the city.

“We want this festival to be a special attraction that shows tourists the history and culture of our city,” said Sergio Herrero, Secretary of Tourism of Bariloche, who highlighted the efforts of the authorities to recover the activities that are identified with the destination.

“Our city is usually a unique attraction in all seasons of the year, but in winter the cold and snow call us for a very characteristic celebration,” added the official. These are some of the most notable activities.

Competitions and contests

On the first day of the festival at 3pm, the popular waiter race will take place. The competition will have three categories: master, female and male, in which participants will show their ability to carry the tray through the streets of the city. This activity will include the participation of colleagues from other towns and the special inclusion of waiters from Chile.

The activity requires extreme skill, as the contestants cannot run, they must walk at a walking pace, carrying the tray loaded with objects on top and without touching. They must not hold the tray with both hands and must wear the traditional clothing for the activity.

That same Friday, at 5:30 p.m., there will also be a non-alcoholic cocktail making competition, in which students from the Bariloche Sectional Gastronomic Union (UTHGRA) bartender course, as well as local residents and tourists, will participate.

On the same day, the city’s bakers will compete in the long-awaited cake contest. Professionals and amateurs will participate in different categories and the jury is made up of baking experts from Bariloche and Buenos Aires. At the Civic Center there will be an aerial dance show followed by a rock show.

The contest will feature categories for all ages and skill levels, from amateurs to professional bakers. Participants will have the opportunity to show off their creativity and culinary skills, presenting their most exquisite and decorated cakes. The event is free and open to the public, and is an invitation to celebrate local talent and enjoy a delicious day.

On Saturday, the legendary Lumberjack Competition will take place, where it will be determined who can cut logs with a diameter of 40 centimetres for men and 30 centimetres for women the fastest. At 3pm on Mitre Street, the Sea Guard of Mar del Plata will hold its traditional parade, and at 4pm in Puerto San Carlos, the candidates for Snow Queens will parade in the pullovers made by the city’s knitters. Two hours later, at the Civic Centre, the international freestyle motocross athletes will add their share of adrenaline with their jumps and acrobatics. The highlight of the night is Trueno’s recital, which will make the crowd dance from the main stage of the Civic Centre.

Official opening with Emanero

At 6pm on Friday, the Río Negro Philharmonic will give a concert at the BEC (Bariloche Events and Conventions) while the traditional nautical parade will take place on Lake Nahuel Huapi. At 8:30pm the official opening of the festival will take place and the candidates for the competition will be presented. National Snow Queen.

This contest has not been held since 2018 and returns to choose the new ambassador who will represent and promote the attractions of the destination. The day ends with the show of Emanerothe young leader of rap and urban music, who will perform at the Civic Center.

The Thunder Concert

This new edition of the Festival will feature Trueno, the renowned singer and composer and winner of the Freestyle Master Series in Argentina, on Saturday 24th. He will present his show at the Civic Center of Bariloche, at the event that is already emblematic of the Argentine winter season.

With free admission, the rapper will perform at the third edition of Monster Energy Winter Jam. This new edition, unlike the previous ones that were held at the base of Cerro Catedral, Winter Jam will be held at the Plaza del Centro Cívico.

Closing are ‘La Sole’

The last day of the festival begins at 11 with a competition of firefighters who will demonstrate their skill, ability and strength. During the day there will be live shows of folklore, tango and urban dance. At 8 pm the candidate who will be the new National Snow Queen will be announced.

As a grand finale, Soledad Pastorutti will give a recital that will be the finishing touch to three days of celebrations. The three days of festivities promise to fill the snow capital with joy and be a magnet for local and international tourism.
