Jokeraccording to the director Todd PhillipsIn a new interview with Variety, Phillips spoke at length about the first two Joker films: Joker of 2019 and the next Joker 2: Folly of TwoTowards the end of the cover story, the director shared an update on the future of the franchise.
“It was fun to play in this sort of sandbox for two movies, but I think we’ve said what we wanted to say in this world,” he said, seemingly confirming that the upcoming sequel will be led by Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga will see the end of the world he has built.
What Joker 2: Folie à Deux is about
In Joker: Folie à Deux, Phoenix will reprise his role as Arthur Fleck/Joker, while Lady Gaga will take on the role of Harleen “Lee” Quinzel, a version of Harley Quinn. The film will not be a straightforward psychological drama like the first one, but will instead take the form of a rock and roll musical.
Recently, Lady Gaga spoke about what to expect from Folie à Deux: “There is music, there is dancing, it is a drama, it is also a courtroom drama, it is a comedy, it is joyful, it is sad. It is a testament to [Todd] As a director, I would rather be creative than just tell a traditional love story.”
