The series performed well with critics but divided fans, which was reflected in its overall audience.

It’s only been a couple of days since Disney cancelled its latest series of Star Wars, The Acolytebut fans are already moving to try to save the show.

On Change.org, a fan named Blue Smith created a petition to save the series set in the High Republic of Leslye HeadlandWhile poor reception from some viewers, along with more malicious criticism, was evident throughout the show’s run, the quick and proactive reaction from fans shows a dedicated fanbase that was eager to see what Headland and company were cooking up to continue the story.

Amandla Stenberg leads the series as conflicted twin sisters Osha and Mae, making her first English-language appearance as Jedi Master Sun alongside Daphne Keen, Charlie Barnett and more. The former star of The Good Place and Top Gun: Maverick, Manny Jacintoespecially became a fan favorite like The Stranger/Qimir. Expectations were sky-high for how the series would portray the end of the High Republic era and show how such a pivotal moment paved the way for future events that most viewers know about.

The petition and many of its signers pointed out the lack of diversity in the protagonists in entertainment in general, but especially in the entire canon of Star Warsas a reason why The Acolyte felt like a breath of fresh air.

The case of a series that was saved by an online petition

While a change seems unlikely, fan backlash has managed to save shows in the past. The series Warrior Nun of Netflix is a case in point. After it was cancelled after two seasons, an overwhelming backlash prompted the streaming service to revive the series, albeit with a trilogy of films rather than a third set of episodes. There’s always at least some hope, however slim, if fans show their support for the show.
