Television: Dieter Bohlen on Raab boxing match: “That’s awesome”

Dieter Bohlen and Stefan Raab have had a checkered past together. The “pop titan” can now imagine joint projects.

Musician Dieter Bohlen is looking forward to the boxing match between entertainer Stefan Raab and ex-professional boxer Regina Halmich with a certain amount of glee. “He’s getting a real beating in his first show, that’s awesome,” the 70-year-old told the “Bild” newspaper. Bohlen considers it his achievement that Raab is having his exhibition match broadcast on RTL on September 14. “I’ve been telling Stefan for 30 years that he should come to RTL, and now he’s finally followed my advice.”

Bohlen believes that a joint project between the two entertainment professionals is possible in principle: “We are musically completely different – I make successful pop music and he often goes in a different direction – but that doesn’t mean that we couldn’t work together.” However, Bohlen does not see his industry colleague Raab on the jury of his casting show “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” (DSDS): “Stefan is not the type to sit on a jury. He is just too independent for that.” But there are other formats: “Who knows, maybe something exciting will come of it between the two of us.”

In any case, both celebrities have a shared history of taunting each other. “Stefan Raab once said that all my songs only have three harmonies – that’s total nonsense,” said Bohlen in an interview with “Bild”. The relationship between him and Raab has always been a rollercoaster ride. “Sometimes we celebrate each other, sometimes we have a little exchange of blows.”

Raab is returning to television with the boxing match after a long absence from the screen. In 2015, he largely withdrew from the public eye. Since then, he has been working behind the scenes. In 2018, he appeared in a stage show in Cologne, but it was not broadcast on television.

The former TV presenter (57, “TV total”) has already boxed against Halmich (47) twice – in 2001 and 2007. In both fights the Cologne native lost, once breaking his nose. The first two encounters were broadcast by ProSieben. The latest exhibition fight is called “The Clark Final Fight”.
