Taylor Swift’s words on the failed concerts in Vienna
Swift thanked her team and fellow performers, calling them “the most amazing people,” before talking about the Vienna shows. “Going on stage in London was a rollercoaster of emotions. The cancellation of our Vienna shows was devastating,” she wrote. The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear and a huge sense of guilt because many people had planned to attend those shows. But I was also very grateful to the authorities because, thanks to them, we were regretting the concerts and not the concerts.”
Swift continued: “I was heartened by the love and unity I saw in the fans who came together. I decided that all of my energy had to go toward helping protect the nearly half a million people who came to see the shows in London. My team and I worked closely with stadium staff and British authorities every day to achieve that goal, and I want to thank them for everything they did for us.”
In that regard, Swift did not mince her words. “I want to be very clear: I will not speak publicly about something if I think that doing so could provoke those who want to harm the fans who come to my concerts.”she said in her Wednesday post. “In cases like this, ‘silence’ is actually showing restraint and waiting to speak up at the right time. My priority was to finish our European tour safely and it’s a huge relief to be able to say that we accomplished that.”
The 14-time Grammy winner concluded her post on a high note, mentioning some highlights from her London tour, including special guests and old friends. Florence + the Machine, Jack Antonoff and Ed Sheeransaying that “the energy in that stadium was like the biggest bear hug from 92,000 people every night and it brought me back to a place of carefree calm up there.”
