Meryl Streep and Martin Short defy dating rumors and pose together at the “Only Murders in the Building” premiere.
This appearance could reignite the rumors of a romance. At the premiere party for the start of the fourth season of “Only Murders in the Building,” Meryl Streep (75) and Martin Short (74) posed together on the red carpet on Thursday. The two actors even briefly held hands, as pictures from the event show.
Dating speculation about Meryl Streep and Martin Short first arose in January of this year. The veteran stars sat together at the Golden Globes and seemed very familiar. Both were nominated for a Globe for their roles in the third season of “Only Murders in the Building.” Neither of them won. In the third round of the comedy series, Streep and Short played a couple, which certainly gave the rumors a boost.
“Just very good friends, nothing more”
Martin Short felt compelled to make a statement at the time. He and Meryl Streep were just “very good friends, nothing more,” he said through a spokesman. Short personally confirmed shortly afterwards that there was nothing to the dating rumors.
As was announced in October 2023, Streep and her still-husband Don Gummer (77) have been separated for more than six years. The three-time Oscar winner was previously married to the sculptor for 45 years without any scandal. The couple have four children together.
Martin Short has been widowed since 2010. He was married to his wife, who died of ovarian cancer, for 30 years. The couple had three children.
The fourth season of “Only Murders in the Building” starts on August 27, 2024 on the US streaming service Hulu. In Germany, Disney+ is showing the hit series, also starting on August 27. In addition to Streep and Short, Steve Martin (79) and Selena Gomez (32) are also returning. Newcomers include Eva Longoria (49) and Melissa McCarthy (53).
