Pink (44) made a special appearance at the Democratic Party Convention in Chicago on Thursday: Together with her daughter, the singer performed an emotional version of her song “What About Us” and thereby made a political statement.
Indictment of Trump’s policies
The song, released in 2017, is seen as an indictment of Trump’s policies, which have restricted the rights of minorities such as immigrants and homosexuals in America and broken promises. Among other things, it says: “And what about us? What about all the times you said you had the answers? And what about us? What about all the broken happy endings? Oh, what about us? What about all the plans that ended in disaster?”
Pink performed the lines with her daughter Willow Sage (13) and background singers on stage, while the numerous spectators were bathed in pink light. The (young) singers were accompanied only by a guitar and were thus able to demonstrate their vocal power to the full. In addition to Pink and her daughter, other musicians have previously performed on the Democrats’ stage, including Stevie Wonder (74) and John Legend (45).
