Christian Perez Latorrethe surgeon who operated on Silvina Lunawas left detained in the United Stateswhere he lives and works. He is accused of “posing as a doctor” and performing cosmetic surgery without a license.
Perez Latorre’s arrest took place on Thursday, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon said. The case for which he was arrested dates back to July 2021. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison. maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
“When a person impersonates a physician and performs medical procedures without a license, they not only endanger lives, but they also erode the essential trust between patients and legitimate health care providers,” Gascon said.
The arrest followed a request from the California Department of Consumer Affairs’ Investigation Division. “This act of deception threatens the integrity of our health care system and the trust the community has in those dedicated to their well-being. We are committed to seeking justice for the victim, making that Mr. Latorre be held accountable and restore the trust that has been so gravely violated,” the official statement added.

Pérez Latorre was accused of a charge of assault with a deadly weapon; one count of assault with serious injury; and six counts of practicing medicine without certification. In addition, the Los Angeles district attorney says, he inflicted serious bodily injury.
The case dates back to July 13, 2021when – according to the authorities – he performed “unlicensed cosmetic surgery on a woman.” The patient suffered infections resulting from the operation, so Pérez Latorre treated her “medically” 10 days later.
On August 13 of that year, a month after the intervention, ““retreated the victim for further complications related to the surgery.”
“Latorre was arrested on August 22, 2024 by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigation,” authorities reported.
“There is no excuse for the practice of medicine without a license and it will not be tolerated,” said Kathleen Nicholls, chief of the Department of Consumer Affairs’ Research Division.Anyone who breaks the law and endangers the health of others must face the consequences of their dangerous and selfish actions.“We are grateful to our law enforcement partners and investigators who worked tirelessly on this case.”
It is not yet clear whether Latorre had registered to practice medicine and what type of permits he had.
