Chris Töpperwien has been acquitted of the charges of breach of trust and embezzlement. The “Currywurst man” is crying with relief.
Chris Töpperwien (50) can breathe a sigh of relief: The trial against the TV star and entrepreneur at the regional court in Wiener Neustadt ends with an acquittal. The former jungle camper and “Goodbye Germany” star was accused of breach of trust and embezzlement.
That is why he was brought to court
The “Currywurst Man” was taken into custody by the Federal Police at Munich Airport at the beginning of May when he attempted to enter Germany for a TV production. Apparently there was a European arrest warrant against him.
According to information from RTL, he was reported by his former employer in Austria because he allegedly made private payments for a garden hose using his company card. Knives and barbecue spices were also reportedly an issue. The Cologne resident spent a total of twelve days behind bars before being extradited to Austria. He was then released there.
The allegations are of course not pleasant. Not for him and certainly not for his wife and child: “In my eyes, these allegations are unbelievable and shocking.”
Tears of relief
In pictures showing him after the announcement of the acquittal, Töpperwien can be seen visibly relieved and in tears. “I’m obviously super happy,” the APA quoted him as saying. Justice had prevailed. “It was the worst situation in my entire life and I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. It was a nightmare for me and now it’s finally over.”
According to APA, the single judge explained the acquittal as not being about whether he always acted morally correctly or made accounting errors. It was about assessing whether criminal conduct had occurred. The accused could not be proven to have had the intent to cause harm or to gain unlawful benefits. “Just because an invoice or receipt is missing” does not mean that there is breach of trust or any other offense. In case of doubt, the decision will be made in favor of the accused.
This is how Chris Töpperwien became known
The entrepreneur emigrated to the USA over ten years ago. He started his TV career on the VOX show “Goodbye Germany! The Emigrants”. This was followed by an appearance in the RTL production “The Summer House of the Stars – Battle of the Celebrity Couples”, at the time with his ex-wife Magdalèna Kalley. In 2019 he took part in the successful format “I’m a Celebrity – Get Me Out of Here!”, where he took sixth place.
He has been married to his current wife Nicole since 2022. Their son was born in the same year.
