In the dating show “The Bachelorette,” the male candidates face female competition. For rose distributor Stella, it’s the person who matters – not gender.
Roses are being handed out again at RTL: The new season of the dating show “The Bachelorette” has started on the streaming service RTL+. Munich-based Stella Stegmann is now searching for her true love and the perfect man – or the perfect woman – for several episodes. The bisexual 27-year-old is the first “Bachelorette” to date men and women in the format. Her conclusion after the first episode: “I’m completely overwhelmed.”
Speed dating in Thailand
In the first episode, she first meets – in a classic way – men. During several small speed dates in Thailand, she has to decide against the first candidates and hand out cut flowers before the big first “Night of Roses”. Only a mysterious, locked room in the candidates’ villa initially indicates that things might be different this season than in the previous one. Because that is where the five candidates who are competing with the men for the “Bachelorette’s” favor this year will probably sleep.
Who are the “Woo Girls”?
The fact that things aren’t going entirely smoothly is hinted at in a preview of the upcoming episodes: “And then the Woo girls move on, who haven’t achieved anything in their lives yet,” says one candidate disapprovingly. In episode two, which is also already available on the streaming service, the women will join in.
For more than ten years, RTL has been sending the “Bachelorette” in search of love. This year, for the first time, the dating show will no longer be shown on free TV, but only on the streaming portal RTL+.
And something else is different: While in previous seasons the candidates had to put on a show in front of the Bachelorette on the red carpet one after the other, which was usually awkward, sometimes unintentionally funny and often involved strained small talk, this year the brief moments of getting to know each other are a little more varied. Sometimes the candidates arrive by jet ski, sometimes by quad bike. Sometimes the first conversations take place over coffee and cake, sometimes in the traditional tuktuk.
“A bit of ghetto, elegance and dominance. A dream comes true”
And there are voice messages from friends and family members praising Stella’s potential new life partners. With one exception: Candidate Musty wrote his own voice message: “A bit of ghetto, elegance and dominance. A dream comes true: Musty is his name – and you want to know how I know that? After all, I’ve known myself for 30 years.” And there it is again: one of those embarrassing moments that traditionally characterize the first “Bachelorette” or “Bachelor” episode.
