After the fuss about her brother Sebastian Fischer’s doctorate, a book project by Cathy Hummels and the Südwest-Verlag is on hold. “The publisher, Ms. Hummels and Sebastian Fischer have indeed decided not to realize the planned book (together),” wrote Hummels’ lawyer Stefan Ventroni in response to a request from the German Press Agency. The “Bild” newspaper had previously reported on this. The publisher initially did not comment on the request, but according to “Bild” the publisher also confirmed the end of the joint plans.

Influencer Hummels, who made her own depression story public a few years ago, had planned a book with her brother Sebastian Fischer, a doctor, entitled “Out of the Shadows – Your Way Out of Depression”. On an already published book cover, Fischer was named with a doctorate – even though he doesn’t have one.
After the “Bild” newspaper reported on it, the publisher deleted the cover, which was supposed to indicate the planned publication of the book. “Until a few weeks ago, Südwest-Verlag had no evidence that would have given rise to doubts that Mr. Fischer had not yet completed his dissertation,” the publisher said in response to a query at the beginning of July. “Through current media research and the publisher’s inquiry to Mr. Fischer, it has become clear that he does not currently have a doctorate. The publisher has then deleted the provisional cover from its systems.”

Hummels also referred to her brother as a “doctor” on Instagram. However, this was not a deliberate attempt to deceive the public, she stressed in a press release sent by her lawyer at the beginning of July. “I referred to my brother as a doctor on Instagram in 2018 because I was under the widespread misconception that every doctor has this title,” it said. She “didn’t want to deceive anyone, but simply meant his profession.” “Like many people, for me, doctor and doctor were the same thing and nothing more than a job title,” the 36-year-old said.
