Ricardo Darín’s speech at the Sur Awards

The brief speech that set out his position on the current situation in Argentine cinema, amidst the controversy that is invading the sector due to the restructuring measures in its subsidy policy that were decided by the new management of INCAA, chaired by the economist Carlos Pirovanoand promoted by the national government by the Ministry of Deregulation and Modernization of the State in charge of Federico Sturzenegger.

Our activity and culture in general are going through a moment of crisisI know that time will correct this. Time and us, I hope. Along with a certain disdain for our work, there is the absurd idea floating around that general culture does not deserve or need incentives and structural contributions. It is strange, because our people have earned the admiration of the entire world through their talent. That added value that people from all over the world come to produce their work here. It is not necessary to remember that our activity generates thousands of jobs and foreign currency, which is so important at this time.”

“We are confident that it can be managed better, with suitability and transparency. Art is one of the great contributions to our economy and like all economic activity it needs investment.. That same investment that led to excellence in all areas of Argentine audiovisual production. It is a great opportunity, let’s not let it pass. It may be the last. Less culture, less art, less cinema, less education, is not a good equation for the future. We have already seen that.“, concluded the actor, whose words were crowned by a standing ovation.
