Rod Stewart absolutely wants to live in the USA – his wife Penny Lancaster, on the other hand, is pushing for him to return to Great Britain.
Is Rod Stewart’s (79) house in Los Angeles costing his marriage to Penny Lancaster (53)? The couple has been married since 2007 and has two sons together. Alastair (18) and Aiden (13) live with their mother in a palatial property in Essex, England, while their father often stays in his $70 million villa in Beverly Hills, California.
Last year, the singer announced that he wanted to make his British home his main residence again and sell his house in the USA. Now the 79-year-old has apparently changed his mind – much to the chagrin of his wife.
“Stalemate” in their 17-year marriage
As an insider revealed, Stewart promised his wife, who feels at home in England and has professional roots there, that she would return there permanently. But now he refuses to give up his house in the USA for good. Stewart loves his life in Los Angeles and does not want to leave it behind – his villa has now also disappeared from the sales platform.
Because of their different ideas about where they want to live, Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster have maneuvered their marriage into a crisis. “They are at a stalemate and Penny is angry that Rod has broken his word. Right now it’s about saving their marriage,” the source continued.
For Rod Stewart it was “time to go”
Rod Stewart, one of the most successful British musicians with 250 million records, revealed for the first time in June 2023 his plans to return to the UK after almost 50 years in the US. “I love Los Angeles and the Americans have been very good to me, but it’s time to go. My two boys go to school in the UK,” he told Virgin Radio at the time.
However, he also stressed that it was with a heavy heart that he could leave the yellow mansion, which he had built in 1975, behind: “The chance of me selling it is very, very slim because I really love it and if I don’t get the right price, I won’t sell it.” Stewart had originally offered his house for $70 million, in December he increased the price to $80 million, before lowering the price by $6 million to $74 million (around 67 million euros) in February.
