Love is over after almost three decades: Leah Remini and Angelo Pagán have announced their separation in an emotional statement.
“King of Queens” star Leah Remini (54) and Angelo Pagán (56) are going their separate ways after 21 years of marriage. The two have now announced this in a joint post. “After 28 years together and 21 years of marriage, we have decided to file for divorce,” the post reads. “This decision has been made after careful consideration, and as difficult as divorce is, we are approaching it with a positive attitude because we know it is the best thing for us.”
Leah Remini and Angelo Pagán are “proud”
They are “proud of how we got through this situation together.” But at the same time, they are also sad. “We have a lot to figure out as we continue to move into our new normal – still together in many ways and apart in some new ways.”
The parents of one daughter also address the reason for the separation in their statement. “We have been best friends for so many years. We still celebrate the holidays together, watch our favorite shows together and come together as a family. So the big question is: why?” Their bond is strong, but has developed into something else. The two have “changed, just as people change” and have “gotten used to playing roles that no longer suit us.”
Remini and Pagán continue: “We believe that a marriage that has lasted this long and produced so many beautiful memories, especially raising our incredible daughter, is something to be celebrated. From our perspective, this marriage has been a great success.”
“As transparent as possible”
It is important to them to be “as transparent as possible” with their statement. “For years we have made our marriage so public,” they say. “We share this uncharted territory with all of you as we make our first steps into this next phase of our lives public.” With the statement, the couple shared a photo collage of an old picture and a newer one.
Leah Remini and Angelo Pagán met in 1996 in a Cuban restaurant in Los Angeles. In July 2003, the couple tied the knot in Las Vegas, and one year later their daughter Sofia (20) was born. The couple had their own reality show to accompany them both at the wedding and the birth of their daughter.
