There, among leafy trees, the emblematic general store of the same name stands. Dates from 1859 and its front wall, bright yellow with large black letters, stands out from the road. Its interior is in the process of being repaired, although the legendary counter is still preserved along with ancient shelves and drawers.
Juan Domingo Perón’s childhood home and museum
It was already there when the town still had no church or civil registry (in fact, the birth was registered in Lobos). Here, Mario Tomás Perón and Juana Sosa, lived with their two children: Avelino and Juan (who much later became president of the country several times). The construction, extremely simple, is a humble adobe ranch, classic and precarious abode of that time on the countryside horizon. The house remains almost intact, surrounded by a park with a legendary araucaria; and next to it stands another building that houses numerous objects, photos and related bibliography. Admission is free and guided tours are available.
Railway premises (former station and Jorge Caro Exhibition Warehouse)
In one of the railway depots, completely recycled, we found the Jorge Caro Exhibition Shed, with a collection of artistic works, historical photos, objects and testimonies donated by residents, a paleontological area and traveling collections. The train station is located in Lindera, which has been inactive since 2017 when the last train of the General Roca Railway (formerly the Southern Railway) passed through. The building (the first construction in the town) has been preserved, and today there is a small museum alluding to the railway. Both sites are open on weekends and admission is free.
Ratto Lagoon
Towards the end of the 19th century, the Ratto family property became one of the most renowned in the community. A large area of land that included a brick factory, whose “cava” (the holes left after removing the mud to make the bricks) gave rise to the popular “lagoon”.
The Municipality of Roque Pérez recovered this natural space in 2019, reincorporating it into the social life of the town, as a place of preservation and recreation for all. More than 70 species of mountain and lagoon birds live here. Also a unique species of mammal: the coypu. There are also dozens of species of trees, shrubs and aquatic plants that purify the air in the place.
