Prince Harry and Prince William met again last Wednesday after a long time, again for a sad reason: the funeral of their uncle.
It was their first meeting this year and they kept it discreet and unobtrusive. On Wednesday of this week, Lord Fellowes’ funeral took place in the county of Norfolk, which was also attended by Prince Harry and Prince William.
Lord Robert Fellowes was the husband of Princess Diana’s sister, Jane Spencer. The princes’ uncle also served as Queen Elizabeth II’s private secretary from 1990 to 1999. Although Lord Fellowes died on July 29, 2024 at the age of 82, the funeral took place a month later on August 28. Prince Harry also traveled from America, his place of residence for four years, for the occasion.
In 2008, The Telegraph magazine published one of the very rare interviews with the Lord, in which he said: “Few know more about the Royal Family than Robert Fellowes, and few have said less.”
Prince Harry and Prince William were observed
The funeral took place in St. Mary’s Church in the small town of Snettisham, on the North Sea coast of Norfolk. It is no wonder that William and Harry were not able to get to the 14th century church with its view over the small village without being recognised, and that local residents noticed them. Although both princes had made their journey separately and as discreetly as possible, both entered the building through the back and both sat a little way off at the back of the church, they were observed by the mourners present.
The British news portal “Daily Mail” reports that mourners have confirmed the chilly mood and distance between the brothers. They are said to have not spoken a word to each other, although their uncle’s funeral was probably their first meeting this year. The last time William and Harry were in a room together was at the coronation of King Charles III more than a year ago. They also sat separately then and were not photographed together. Before that, they were last photographed together at the funeral of the late Queen in 2022.
This is the third time Prince Harry has jetted to the UK this year, having flown in from Los Angeles for a very brief visit shortly after his father was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and then a little later to promote the Invictus Games.
