TV boxing match: Regina Halmich: I can beat Stefan Raab

She is “really looking forward to this spectacle,” said former professional boxer Regina Halmich about her comeback in the ring. Her opponent is none other than Stefan Raab – and she predicts that it will be a blast.

In just over two weeks, former professional boxer Regina Halmich will face an opponent that many are looking forward to: Stefan Raab wants to appear in public again – in the ring. His opponent has already declared war on her: “I am 47 years old. No longer a world champion. No longer a professional boxer. And yet I can still beat Stefan Raab,” she said in an interview with “Zeit Online”.

She started boxing training again for the TV fight on September 14th after a 17-year break. “My sense of distance isn’t as good anymore,” said Halmich. But boxing is like riding a bike, “you don’t forget it.”

Halmich also appeared confident to the “Stuttgarter Zeitung” and the “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” (Saturday editions): Raab should not be fooled, she is in top form and will make sure “that things go well”. And she rejected the idea of a purely show fight: “You can’t play boxing. So this time too, there will be real punching, it will hurt,” said Halmich.

After the showdown with Raab, however, it was over for her: Since she has a “strong passion for competition,” she had to be careful – and therefore “quit immediately. Definitely!”, said Halmich.

Halmich and Raab will compete in Düsseldorf on September 14th. The TV channel RTL will broadcast the duel, which has already taken place twice in the past. After a long absence from TV, the former presenter Raab is returning to television.
