Hollywood star Tom Hanks warns on Instagram about a fake AI Hanks who advertises dubious miracle cures.
Tom Hanks’ (68) fight against AI-generated advertising with his likeness continues: This time in front of an advertisement in which a fake Tom Hanks promotes miracle cures and miracle drugs.
Hanks writes in the post, which is declared a “Public Service Announcement”: “There are several advertisements on the Internet that falsely use my name, likeness and voice to promote miracle cures and miracle drugs. These ads were created without my consent, fraudulently and using artificial intelligence.”
Tom Hanks warns: “Don’t lose your hard-earned money”
Hanks further assures that he has nothing to do with these posts, products or treatments. And he explains: “I have type 2 diabetes and ONLY work with my licensed physician on my treatment.” In capital letters, the actor warns his approximately 9.5 million followers: “Don’t be fooled. Don’t be lied to. Don’t lose your hard-earned money.”
This is not the first time that Hanks has protested against AI advertising using his face. Almost a year ago, he distanced himself on Instagram from an advertisement that used his image to advertise a dental procedure. At the time, he wrote: “Be careful!! There is a video out there advertising a dental procedure using an Al version of me.” However, the Hollywood star made it clear in no uncertain terms: “I have nothing to do with this.”
