Oasis: The reason for the comeback tour could be unromantic

The comeback of Oasis is causing a stir among fans of the cult band. Have the Gallagher brothers, who have been at odds for years, finally come together for the benefit of the fans? Hardly.

In the summer of 2025, Oasis fans will gather in droves to belt out “Don’t Look Back In Anger” at the top of their lungs. Finally again. After the English cult band split up in 2009, brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher have apparently come together. For the sake of the music. And for the sake of the fans. Or have they?

Noel Gallagher has decided against an Oasis comeback for years

In fact, there could be another, quite pragmatic reason behind the reunion: money. At the end of last year, the divorce of songwriter Noel Gallagher made headlines in Great Britain. The British newspaper “The Sun” revealed the financial arrangement that Gallagher had made with ex-wife Sara MacDonald. MacDonald will receive 20 million pounds (around 22.8 million euros) as well as the ex-couple’s luxurious villa in the posh Hampshire in the south of England. The property is said to be worth eight million pounds.

At the end of the divorce negotiations, the ex-couple only communicated through lawyers, the Sun reported at the time. After Noel Gallagher decided against a comeback tour years ago, the financial incentive after the multi-million dollar divorce may have been too great.

His divorce cost him millions

In 2020, singer Liam Gallagher revealed on “The Jonathan Ross” talk show that he and his older brother – unsurprisingly – had a disagreement when they were offered a tour. “It was £100 million for a tour and I thought, ‘I’m not a fool, you know what I mean?'” the younger Gallagher brother said in an interview at the time.

For £100 million, he would have been willing to be on stage with his older brother again. But his older brother wasn’t interested and would rather be knighted instead, Liam Gallagher speculated at the time. But Gallagher hadn’t given up hope. “Never say never,” the singer told Jonathan Ross.

Five years and a painfully expensive divorce later, the Gallagher brothers will actually be on stage together again.
