The German hip-hop band Antilopen Gang has written a song six months after the Islamist Hamas terrorist attack on Israel. The band is now once again speaking out about anti-Semitic sentiment.
Musician Danger Dan from the German hip-hop band Antilopen Gang is sobered by the time since the Islamist Hamas terror attack on Israel. “The lack of solidarity with Jews in Germany and Europe was disappointing,” the 41-year-old, whose real name is Daniel Pongratz, told “Spiegel”. “And the wave of anti-Semitic sentiment that swept through the world was shocking.”
Six months after the terrorist attack on October 7, 2023, in April of this year, the Antilopen Gang wrote a song about the social situation and anti-Semitic sentiment since then. With the song “October in Europe,” the band also made a statement about left-wing anti-Semitism.
In contrast to Danger Dan, bandmate Koljah (Kolja Podkowik) was neither surprised nor disappointed by the lack of solidarity, as he says: “That implies that there was a left before that was notable for its solidarity with Israel or criticism of anti-Semitism. That is not the case,” the 38-year-old told “Spiegel”. It was “notable for its post-colonialism, and that then showed itself in its ugliest face.”
