Céline Dion as a star guest at the next Eurovision Song Contest? That’s possible, says a co-producer. Dion and Switzerland share a special ESC history.
The producers of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2025 in Basel are considering singer Céline Dion as a guest star. “Of course that’s an issue for us,” said co-producer Reto Peritz to “Sonntagsblick”. “Actually, the ESC wants to put talent in the foreground and not let it be overshadowed by world-famous stars. But of course it also has its appeal to have such a name in the show.”
The Canadian Dion and Switzerland have a special ESC history. In 1988, as a 20-year-old, she competed for Switzerland with the song “Ne partez pas sans moi” and won. That was the start of her international career. In 1989, the spectacle therefore took place in Lausanne on Lake Geneva.
Planning for the shows in Basel will start in the next few weeks, said Peritz. The finale will take place on May 17. When asked whether Dion had already been asked about a possible participation, Peritz did not respond in the interview.
Dion has been suffering from stiff person syndrome with muscle cramps for several years. At the Olympic Games in Paris, she sang publicly during the opening ceremony for the first time since 2019.
