Shock for the former “Dawson’s Creek” cast: colleague Obi Ndefo is dead. He was only 51 years old.
Obi Ndefo, who became known through the series “Dawson’s Creek”, has died at the age of 51. His sister announced this on Facebook. In 2019, the actor lost both legs in an accident.
The American also appeared in productions such as “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” (1993) and “Stargate SG-1” (1997). His best-known role, however, was that of Bodie Wells in “Dawson’s Creek”, which he played from 1998 to 2002.
His sister is “inconsolable”
The untimely death of the actor and yoga teacher was announced by his sister Nkem Ndefo in a Facebook post on Saturday, August 31. She did not provide any further details about the cause of death. She wrote in her post: “I am heartbroken over the loss of my younger brother and know he has finally found peace.” She shared a photo showing the two arm in arm.
“You were and always will be a shining light”
Fellow actress Mary-Margaret Humes (70), who played Dawson’s mother Gale Leery in the series, also paid tribute to the deceased on her Instagram page. “I find it hard to believe that you have left us, my dear friend. You were and will always be a shining light. What an example of pure, unfiltered love and perseverance you have been as you have faced life’s challenges recently.” She will cherish “all our mutual expressions of love and support” over the past few years. She also tagged some of the series stars such as Katie Holmes (45), Joshua Jackson (46) and James Van Der Beek (47). In the hashtags, Humes also said that they are a “TV family” and “friends forever”.
Ndefo’s former colleague published a short video of behind-the-scenes moments on the set of the hit series. It shows, among other things, the actor hugging Katie Holmes during a rehearsal scene and joking with James Van Der Beek outdoors.
Hit by SUV
Obi Ndefo suffered a terrible fate on August 17, 2019: The actor had just packed his groceries into his parked car after a visit to the supermarket in Los Angeles when an SUV rammed into him. His right leg was severed, while his left leg was left hanging. This had to be amputated. A year later, he told the Los Angeles Times: “What happened to me is just so terrible. Why should I make it worse by feeling bad about it?” He had no choice but to live with it.
A fundraising campaign raised more than $200,000 to cover the cost of prosthetic legs and barrier-free renovations to his Silver Lake home.
