Great Britain: Ian McKellen wants to perform again despite falling from stage

In June, he slipped and injured himself in a London theater. Now the Gandalf actor from the “Lord of the Rings” films is back and even hinting at a return to the big screen.

British actor Ian McKellen does not want to stop acting despite his fall from a stage. The 85-year-old told the BBC. He fell from the stage during a performance in London’s West End in June and broke his wrist and injured a vertebra.

The actor, best known for his role as the wizard Gandalf in the “Lord of the Rings” films, said he wanted to take a break until the end of the year. But he made it clear that quitting completely was out of the question. “What else would I do if I wasn’t working?” As long as his legs, lungs and head were working, he would carry on.

Although he does have memory problems, he joked that this is also because his advanced age means he has to remember more than younger people.

Return to the screen as Gandalf?

Regarding his injuries from the fall, McKellen said he was fine. He stressed that it was not a fainting spell or anything like that, but that he had simply slipped.

Amid speculation about a new series of Lord of the Rings films, he even hinted at a possible return to the screen as the wizard Gandalf. “I won’t let anyone else wear that pointy hat and beard if I have the chance,” he said.
