Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton: Pedro Almodóvar poses with his two muses

Hand in hand with his leading actresses Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton, Pedro Almodóvar appeared at the Venice Film Festival.

The Venice International Film Festival continues to produce several highlights on the red carpet every day. On Monday (September 2nd), a dazzling, because highly dissimilar, trio appeared before the photographers: Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar (74) had his two “The Room Next Door” leading actresses Julianne Moore (63) and Tilda Swinton (63) in tow and formed a charmingly idiosyncratic styling triptych with them.

Almodóvar appeared wearing colorful sneakers, simple blue jeans, a striped sweater and a gray jacket. The two actresses posed arm in arm and hand in hand to his left and right. Swinton towered over her two colleagues, not least thanks to her huge heels, and she showed off her noble pallor with a dark blue silk two-piece consisting of capri pants and a cropped top with long sleeves. Moore, meanwhile, had opted for a red maxi dress with dark patterns that was also high-cut.

All that’s missing is something golden to round off the trio’s performance – but maybe that will be added soon. On Monday evening, their joint relationship drama “The Room Next Door” will be in the running for the Golden Lion, which will be awarded on September 7th at the finale of the 81st edition of the film festival. They will have to prevail against 20 other international film productions in the competition, including “Joker: Folie à Deux” with Joaquin Phoenix (49) and “Queer” with Daniel Craig (56).

“The Room Next Door”, which also stars John Turturro (67), is Almodóvar’s first feature film in English. In the drama, Moore plays a bestselling author named Ingrid, who one day comes into contact with her former friend Martha (Swinton). The war correspondent is seriously ill and has to undergo various treatments. Her fate causes Ingrid to increasingly come to terms with her own mortality. “The Room Next Door” will be released in Germany on October 24th.
