Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore: Acclaimed for “The Room Next Door”

“The Room Next Door” with Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore thrilled the premiere audience in Venice.

Julianne Moore (63) and Tilda Swinton (63) made a brilliant and acclaimed appearance at the Venice International Film Festival on Monday evening (September 2nd). The premiere of Pedro Almodóvar’s (74) film “The Room Next Door” received a long standing ovation from the audience – the standing ovation lasted 17 minutes. No other entry in the famous film spectacle has ever received so much applause.

Director celebrates with his muses

After the film ended, the Spanish film director kissed his stars Swinton and Moore on the cheeks and raised their arms like boxing champions. He then walked down the stairs of the Sala Grande theater with his new muses and, after 14 minutes, extended the applause by shaking hands with the fans in the theater.

The leading actresses’ look was also glorious: Swinton wore a light Chanel suit with a long jacket, Moore a shimmering gold sequin dress. They hadn’t let the light drizzle spoil their good mood on the red carpet.

According to Variety, the applause for “The Room Next Door” exceeded that for Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist” (12 minutes), Pablo Larrain’s “Maria” (eight minutes) with Angelina Jolie as the famous opera singer Maria Callas and Justin Kurzel’s “The Order” (seven minutes), a crime thriller from the 1980s starring Jude Law.

Drama about two friends

“The Room Next Door” is Almodóvar’s first feature film in English. Moore plays a bestselling author named Ingrid, who gets back in touch with her former friend Martha (Swinton). The war correspondent is seriously ill and has to undergo various treatments. Her fate causes Ingrid to increasingly come to terms with her own mortality. The drama will be released in Germany on October 24th.
