“Raab is a monument”: ProSieben continues to rely on Joko and Klaas

Stefan Raab’s comeback boxing match against Regina Halmich is on RTL. Why not on ProSieben? That’s what station boss Hannes Hiller says about it.

The TV comeback of multi-talented Stefan Raab (57) is imminent. His third boxing match against former world boxing champion Regina Halmich (47) is scheduled for September 14 in Düsseldorf. RTL and RTL+ will broadcast live from 8:15 p.m. Raab’s long-time companion Elton (53) will moderate and all-purpose weapon Laura Wontorra (35) will report on the proceedings.

But why is the eagerly awaited event in front of 15,000 spectators in the arena of the PSD Dome not being broadcast by Raab’s former home channel ProSieben, but by the rival channel? The first two boxing matches in 2001 and 2007, in which Raab lost both times, were of course broadcast there.

Hannes Hiller, who has been the new head of ProSieben for almost a year, offers an explanation. “Raab is an outstanding piece of ProSieben history,” he says: “A monument. But our future looks different.”

ProSieben boss raves about Joko and Klaas

As becomes clear in the interview with the media manager, by “future” he means, among other things, the presenter duo Joko Winterscheidt (45) and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf (40). “What Joko and Klaas and their production company, Florida, keep delivering in terms of impulses and crazy ideas is unique for me. Of course, we see that with the huge range of entertainment content available, it is becoming more difficult to inspire the masses. But we have proven time and again that it still works to bring several generations together in front of the screen for a show,” enthuses Hiller. “The Superduper Show” with presenter Katrin Bauerfeind (42) is also mentioned in this context.

When asked about stars who fascinate audiences across generations, Hiller names Taylor Swift, Heidi Klum, Lukas Podolski and “Joko and Klaas are also growing up here. Maybe there aren’t as many cross-generational stars anymore, but they do exist.

What’s next for RTL and Raab?

RTL is also planning to go beyond the boxing match with “TV total” icon (1999-2015, ProSieben) Stefan Raab. RTL Germany is said to have given Stefan Raab and Daniel Rosemann’s production company a commitment to a guaranteed production volume of at least 90 million euros.

Raab is said to have designed a new format for RTL. “The show will be broadcast for the first time on the Wednesday after the fight and will look for a show heir who will follow in Raab’s television footsteps,” it says about the content of the primetime show.
