An official trial date has been set for the alleged “Ketamine Queen” Jasveen Sangha and the Dr. Salvador Plasenciawho are accused of supplying Matthew Perry the drugs that caused his overdose on October 28, 2023.
If found guilty, both could face several decades in prison. Sangha and Plasencia had pleaded not guilty.
U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada wrote in legal documents that Sangha and Dr. Salvador Plasencia “They took advantage of Mr. Perry’s addiction problems to enrich themselves”.
U.S. District Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett has scheduled a joint trial for March 4, 2025.
Sangha and Plasencia were arrested on August 15 for one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamineSangha has also been charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute ketamine, five counts of distribution of ketamine, one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and one count of maintaining a drug-related premises.
Plasencia also faces seven counts of ketamine distribution and two counts of altering and falsifying documents or records. He is said to have worked with Dr. Mark Chavez, who signed a plea agreement and is expected to appear before U.S. District Judge Jean Rosenbluth on Oct. 2.
“If convicted on all charges, Sangha would face a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison and a statutory maximum sentence of life in prison. Plasencia would face up to 10 years in federal prison for each ketamine-related charge and up to 20 years in federal prison for each falsifying records charge,” U.S. Attorney Estrada’s office said in a statement.
Others accused of Matthew Perry’s death
Erik Fleming and Kenneth Iwamasadefendants in this case, have their own hearings before Judge Garnett scheduled for October 30 and November 6, respectively. Sangha is currently in custody, while Plasencia, Fleming and Iwamasa are out on bail along with Chavez.
Perry was best known for his role as Chandler Bing on the hit NBC sitcom “Friends”which aired from 1994 to 2004.
