Paula Abdul has to cancel her tour due to health problems. The entertainer has to undergo a medical procedure.
US entertainer Paula Abdul (62) has bitter news for her fans: she has to cancel her current tour. The reason is her health, as the “Opposites Attract” singer announces. “It is with an incredibly heavy heart that I have to share an update on some injuries I recently sustained,” writes Abdul. “In order to continue, I have received targeted injections that allow me to have temporary relief, but the demands of a full tour are another story.”
The singer did not reveal which injuries she suffered. However, she would have to undergo surgery: “After several consultations with my doctors and exploring all available options, I was informed that one of my injuries required surgery with a six to eight week recovery time.” The dates of her “Straight Up! To Canada” tour as well as dates in the US states of Alaska and North Dakota could therefore not take place.
“It really breaks my heart”
Addressing her “amazing” fans, Abdul wrote: “You mean the world to me and it truly breaks my heart. I have been looking forward to the energy, love and connection we share whenever we are together. I promise I will be back soon, stronger and better, dancing my heart out and performing for all of you to give you the show you deserve.”
Paula Abdul was scheduled to perform a total of 21 shows in Canada between September 25 and October 26 as part of her tour, as well as in Anchorage, Alaska on September 21 and in Fargo, North Dakota on October 12. At the end of July, the 62-year-old had to cancel a concert in Charleston, South Carolina, after she came down with the flu.
Abdul first became known in the 1980s as a choreographer for music videos by the Jackson Five and Janet Jackson before signing her first record deal in 1987 and releasing three studio albums between 1988 and 1995. Abdul’s singles “Straight Up”, “Cold Hearted”, “Forever Your Girl” and “Opposites Attract” were particularly successful. She then appeared in various dance and talent shows on US television, including as a judge on “American Idol”. Since 2016, the entertainer has been touring more frequently again.
