Universal released the first trailer for Leigh Whannell’s “Werewolf”

The film, which will be released in January, is the work of the director of “The Invisible Man” and screenwriter of “Saw.”

Werewolf Universal’s new film, produced by Jason Blum and its production company Blumhouse Productions, will hit theaters in the United States on January 17, 2025.

The first trailer sheds light on what to expect from the latest version of the story that first arrived in 1941.

What is Werewolf about?

Werewolf stars Christopher Abbott as Lawrence “Larry” Talbot, the character played by Lon Chaney Jr. in the original film and more recently portrayed by Benicio del Toro in 2010’s The Wolfman. In this installment, he is a young husband and father trying to protect his family from a nocturnal creature. Julia Garner (Ozark), which also appears in a prequel to Rosemary’s baby for Paramount+ This fall, she plays his wife.

The film is directed by Leigh Whannellwho directed and co-wrote the script. Whannell last reinvented a classic “Universal Monsters” character with the excellent The invisible man of 2020.

Previously, Universal had attempted a Marvel Cinematic Universe-style approach to its classic monsters called the “Dark Universe.” But after The mummya big-budget film starring Tom Cruisedisappointed, the expansive plan for the shared universe was scrapped, in favor of smaller, unconnected stories.

Werewolf is set to hit theaters in the United States on January 17, 2025.
