Even reading the script for the film “The Last Showgirl” was a new experience for Pamela Anderson. Her conclusion after reading it: “I’m the only one who can do it.”
For US actress Pamela Anderson, known from the hit series “Baywatch” among other things, her lead role in “The Last Showgirl” was a dream come true. “I think I’ve been preparing for this part my whole life,” said Anderson on Friday evening at the 49th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The drama by director Gia Coppola celebrated its world premiere there in front of an enthusiastic audience.
Pamela Anderson was convinced that she was the right person for the role
Just receiving a script like that for “The Last Showgirl” was a completely new experience for her, said Anderson. “It was the first time I ever got to read a good, coherent script,” said the 57-year-old in Toronto. “Then I thought: I’m the only one who can do it. I have nothing to lose and I’m just going to do it. I’ve never felt so much about a role.”
In “The Last Showgirl,” Anderson plays the dancer Shelley, who has been performing in one of the last traditional Las Vegas shows for over 30 years. When stage manager Eddie (Dave Bautista) announces the end of the long-running show, Shelley has to say goodbye to her dance family and the glittering world decorated with crystals and reorganize her life. Her best friend Annette, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, is at her side.
