Pamela Anderson: Acclaimed premiere of “The Last Showgirl”

Pamela Anderson’s (57) comeback on the big screen was a success. The “Baywatch” star was last seen in the cinema in 2007 in “Blond and Blonder”, and now the independent drama “The Last Showgirl” with her in the lead role celebrated a brilliant world premiere at the 49th Toronto International Film Festival. Her appearance on September 6th received much applause and enthusiastic critics.

In “The Last Showgirl” by director Gia Coppola (37), Anderson plays the dancer Shelley, who has been performing in one of the last remaining shows in Las Vegas for over 30 years. When she is fired, she has to say goodbye to the glittering world for good and start a new life. Other roles include Dave Bautista (55) as her boss and Jamie Lee Curtis (65) as a waitress and best friend.

“I have been preparing for this role my whole life”

For Pamela Anderson, who has not always attracted attention with her acting skills in the past, her serious role in “The Last Showgirl” is a dream come true. “I think I’ve been preparing for this role my whole life,” she said on Friday evening in Toronto. Director Coppola also stressed that no one but Anderson could have played the role.

Just reading the script for the film was a new experience for the actress. “It was the first time I ever got to read a good, coherent script,” said Anderson, who appeared at the premiere in an elegant black suit. “Then I thought: I’m the only one who can do it. I have nothing to lose and I’m just going to do it.” She had “never felt so much for a role” in her life.

It is not yet known when “The Last Showgirl” will be released in German cinemas. The distribution rights are held by Constantin Film and a release is expected this autumn.
