Opinion
Luke Mockridge has already found himself in the eye of a shitstorm. He is trying to avoid it again. At least one of his “jokes” about disabled people is even stolen!
He was once a successful comedian until a major scandal broke out. With his latest “Jokes,” however, Luke Mockridge proves once and for all that he does not belong on the Olympus of German comedy. He has no respect. No respect for women – his first major scandal in 2021 was connected to them. And no respect for people with disabilities. He has now impressively proven that.
At the beginning of 2024, Luke Mockridge gave the star a detailed interview. My colleagues specifically asked him about the allegations of sexual assault against his ex-girlfriend Ines Anioli. They became public in 2021. After the publication of a podcast episode by Anioli, a huge media shitstorm followed. Mockridge was targeted, was publicly canceled, and lost money and reputation.
The Cologne public prosecutor’s office did start an investigation, but then closed it due to a lack of evidence. But other women also came forward. They also reported sexual assaults, according to the . “I had an almost sporting motivation to pick up women,” he told my colleagues in the starand also that he liked to “fake” things with women. He admitted that he was an “asshole” but that he had learned from it. I question that after recent events.
Luke Mockridge has apparently learned nothing
Mockridge is an upstanding citizen in the eyes of the law, but in the media landscape he is no longer one, especially after the latest scandal.
In the podcast “Die Deutschen” the resurrected comedian now cracks jokes about the Paralympics like: “The first person who had the idea, that was pretty crazy. The first person who called another country and said: ‘Hey, you know the Olympic Games, I have a similar idea. You also have disabled people in your country, right? Should we see who is faster? Should we put them against each other in a race like that… should we see? This idea is wild!'”
Not only is it pathetic to make fun of people with disabilities, it also shows a similar weakness of character as the disrespectful behavior towards women that Luke Mockridge has already admitted to. Another highlight is: This joke is stolen!
The “joke” about the founding of the Paralympics apparently comes from Shane Gillis
The US comedian Shane Gillis said exactly this joke two years ago. The video of his stage show has over a million views on YouTube. One of these clicks seems to be from Luke Mockridge. Because he also used the same wording as Gillis in German, such as “This idea is wild”. From minute 1:27, Gillis tells his audience exactly this joke, with which Mockridge wanted to make a name for himself as a comedian in the podcast.
Perhaps Luke Mockridge should seriously consider a new job. His sense of humor seems out of date. He also seems to be taking credit for other people’s work. But unlike the cases of the accused some time ago, this time there is evidence of his human error.
In the video of the podcast recording, you can see him laughing his head off at his own jokes at the expense of disabled people. It will be very difficult for his PR crisis team to get him out of this obviously distorted perception of humor and public shitstorm. But he must have just misunderstood something… For example, the job of being a role model when you’re in the public eye.

Thankless job at the moment: Luke Mockridge’s PR crisis team
His management and the PR team he needs will certainly advise him to make a public apology. This time, however, people will probably not believe him. There is no point in complaining about how bad a shitstorm makes a person feel. That’s what he did after his first scandal. Mockridge will probably feel as bad now as people “without arms and legs”. In his “joke”, he wanted to throw them into a swimming pool to see “who drowns last”.
Mr. Mockridge, I would like to ask you a question: Now that you have already made an unpleasant impression on women and are now insulting disabled people – what comes next? Racism? Xenophobia? The list of no-gos in our society would have a few more points for you to work through if you are so into shitstorms.
